URFC vs. NC Courage, Player of the Match: Brittany Ratcliffe

Being in the right place at the right time was enough to ruin the Courage’s perfect record through the first four.

by Wirtjo Leonard

Brittany Ratcliffe returned to the starting line-up after a few weeks absence, showing some nice skill movement on the ball, something that most fans hadn’t really had a chance to experience so far. The moment of brilliance came in the 66th minute where she was able to score a beauty from long range to take what would ultimately be a temporary lead. While in terms of positioning, it was mostly a matter of being in the right place at the right time; a goal is a goal, whether tactically brilliant or not.

Other Contenders

Sydney Miramontez - seemed to be the only defender who was routinely consistent in the first half. While the Royals defense appeared to play slightly better as a unit in the second half, Sydney’s performance is still one that stands out.

Katie Stengel - scored the equalizer, though it wasn’t a great goal by any means, it was great awareness to be in the goal box at the right time.

Rachel Corsie - great slide tackle to avoid a goal in the 24th minute but didn’t particularly standout outside of that instance regardless when in the box every tackle matters.
